Description Product information

Only one man could defeat the British Empire and give his country independence. His goal was freedom, his path non-violence and his weapon humanity. Richard Attenborough's film describes the life of Gandhi - one of the greatest personalities of the 20th century. Gandhi (Ben Kingsley) goes to South Africa as a lawyer in 1893 to unite the Indians living there against the strict apartheid laws. It was there that he practiced passive, non-violent resistance for the first time, which later became the hallmark of his struggle for freedom against the British. From 1915 onwards, he lived in India again and pursued only one goal: India's independence from the British Empire. But more than 30 arduous years passed before his dream came true and India gained independence in 1947.

Gandhi - his name stands for an attitude to life that has decisively changed the course of history and still influences millions of people today.
For his role as Gandhi, Ben Kingsley received the Oscar® (Best Actor).

A fascinating film epic that won 8 Oscars® in 1982 - including "Best Picture"!
