Jerry Florea (Tony Curtis) is planning a robbery. The story begins with the events that turned young Florea (Sal Mineo) into a crook. One day he is shot during a robbery and is then taken under the wing of an affable policeman and his wife. As a young man, he deceives her, pretends that he no longer has criminal intentions and even gets a job with the Brinks. They don't know that he is preparing to rob the restaurant. Only after he and his gang have pulled off the robbery does Florea reconsider his actions and try to make amends for the crime.

Director Joseph Pevney's cleverly produced, captivating, suspenseful and atmospheric film adaptation of Joseph F. Dinneen's 1955 novel entitled "They Stole 2.5 Million Dollars and Came With It" through offers a lot of action, plenty of human drama and a tingling climax.
Tony Curtis plays gangster Jerry Florea in this tale of his young life and corrupt career, while in this version of the famous cash-in-transit robbery at Boston's Brink's Bank – the so-called "perfect crime" or "crime of the century" – he plans a serious crime. It's a fictionalized version of the true story of the 1950 robbery of Boston's Brink's Bank and its mastermind, Tony Pino.
The eternally underrated Curtis is excellent as gangster Jerry Florea, and the far too underrespected George Nader is good as the young policeman Ed Gallagher, who shoots Florea when he flees the scene of the crime and later befriends him. It is mainly a story about male friendship.
