The complete remake of the sequel to the FATAL FRAME (PROJECT ZERO) series, originally released in 2003, is titled FATAL FRAME / PROJECT ZERO II: Crimson Butterfly.
This Japanese-style horror adventure game follows twin sisters as they get lost in an abandoned village haunted by vengeful spirits. With the Camera Obscura, a device that can recognize the impossible and hermetically enclose it, they fight the ghosts in the course of the story.
This title has been completely overhauled and all elements, from the graphics to the audio and the key gameplay systems and controls, have been improved.
The signature camera obscura mechanic, which is used to detect and ward off ghosts, remains an important feature, now offering richer and more engaging gameplay in both exploration and combat. In addition, the new mechanic "Take Mayu by the Hand" offers an intimate aspect that allows you to experience the deep connection between the sisters stronger than ever before.
The story
Twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura visit a stream they remember from their childhood.
The area is soon to be flooded by a dam wall. While Mio reminisces, her older sister Mayu curiously follows a crimson butterfly that leads her to the infamous village, which is no longer marked on any map.
It is a village of vengeful spirits who hunt down the twins who have escaped their ritual. A village of never-ending night.
While Mio tries to find Mayu and flee the village with her, she unwittingly repeats the horror of the past with her actions.
Hidden deep in the village, Mio discovers the truth behind the "forbidden ritual that no one is ever allowed to observe".
