Steve McCluskey runs a casino on Lake Tahoe and actually has enough problems with his job, an annoying ex-wife and his complicated love life. When a little girl suddenly finds herself alone after her father's night of gambling, Penny ends up in Steve's care - and turns his life upside down. While Steve tries to avoid trouble with the authorities, his boss and his girlfriend, the chaos develops into a charming and turbulent story about responsibility, heart and second chances. "A Backpack Full of Trouble" is a charming Hollywood comedy of the early 60s that combines star power, speed and heart in an ideal way. Tony Curtis plays the overwhelmed but lovable hero with a lot of charm, while Suzanne Pleshette, Phil Silvers and Claire Wilcox provide wit, emotion and turbulent entanglements. A special appeal of the film lies in its elaborately shot Disneyland scenes: A Backpack Full of Trouble was the first feature film ever to receive a filming permit in Disneyland Park – a heavily advertised highlight at the time and now a fascinating piece of film and amusement park history. Debutant director Norman Jewison stages the whole thing as a lively, family-friendly comedy with wonderful time, color, and a high nostalgia factor.
