The dreamy city fisherman Axel (Johnny Depp) is abducted by his brother Paul (Vincent Gallo) from his adopted home of New York to the wasteland of Arizona. He joins his uncle Leo's (Jerry Lewis) Cadillac business and quickly loses his heart to his first customer, the older Elaine (Faye Dunaway). Elaine also has dreams that Axel would like to realize for her. Elaine's stepdaughter Grace (Lili Taylor) keeps trying to sabotage the relationship between the two. In a melancholic, but no less funny way, ARIZONA DREAM deals with the "American way of life". The film is characterized by its somnambulistic, surreal sequences, as well as its numerous references to film classics such as "The Godfather - Part II" or "The Invisible Third". The terrific acting performances of Johnny Depp and Faye Dunaway form the heart of the impressive ensemble of actors, which also includes Jerry Lewis, Lili Taylor and Vincent Gallo. In 1993, the charming drama won the Silver Bear as a special jury prize at the Berlinale.
