In 1767, the scientist Grégoire de Fronsac (Samuel Le Bihan) is sent to Gévaudan in southern France with the task of killing a beast that is raging there. It is believed to be a wolf-like creature that is killing more and more people in a cruel way. Accompanied by his friend Mani (Mark Dacascos), he sets off for the provinces to investigate the mysterious events on site. In the process, the two uncover monstrous machinations piece by piece. Not only is the story of the dark, visually impressive film, directed by Christophe Gans (Silent Hill), based on true events, but also a large part of the characters are based on historical models. The film stars Samuel Le Bihan, Mark Dacascos and Jérémie Renier. Dominique Borg won a César for best costumes, Christophe Gans received the Grand Prize of European Fantasy Film in Silver at the Sitges Film Festival.
