John Winger (Bill Murray) loses his job, his car, his apartment and his girlfriend - all in one day. That's when he decides that there is only one way left for him: He persuades his friend Russell (Harold Ramis) to join the army with him. Where else can they do so much to preserve democracy and - what is even more important - meet girls so easily. After an endless feud with their training sergeant (Warren Oates) and a freaky evening in a mud wrestling arena with topless ladies, they really get going.
