Description Product information

Hermann Simon (Henry Arnold) leaves his home village of Schabbach in the Hunsrück in 1960 after graduating from high school to begin studying music and composition in Munich. Numerous new acquaintances, including with the Chilean Juan (Daniel Smith), in whom he soon finds a good friend, enrich Hermann's student life in this turbulent time of social and political upheaval. (7 Blu-rays)

The second part of Edgar Reitz's monumental Heimat trilogy was created in 1992 and, in contrast to the village milieu of the first part, is set in Munich's urban art scene in the 1960s. HEIMAT 2 - CHRONICLE OF A YOUTH depicts the youth years of Hermann Simon, who already played a central role in HEIMAT - A GERMAN CHRONICLE, and accompanies him on his way from high school graduation to music studies in Munich to his return to his home village, whereby Reitz interweaves personal experiences and current events into an epic narrative with unique dramaturgical sensitivity. In each of the 13 episodes, there is another main character in addition to Hermann, played by Henry Arnold, whose name is also mentioned in the opening credits. At the Venice Film Festival in 1992, Edgar Reitz won the FIPRESCI Prize, and in 1994 the film series was awarded the Grimme Prize.
