Frustrated by the "Reader's Digest" of his film, which distributors forced on him, Wenders produced a "Director's Cut" two years after the film's release, which in its length of 4 1/2 hours does justice to his intentions and the epic story. Until the End of the World is considered one of Wenders' most ambitious film projects. The preparations for the film themselves took almost a decade.
